Posted at 1:08 p.m. on Wednesday, November 16, 2022

Decatur County student-athletes have demonstrated success and commitment both on and off the field and three Decatur County student-athletes were recognized as the Heisman High School Scholarship was awarded to three students who demonstrated academic and athletic excellence during their high school careers.

Mallorie Jordan, volleyball player from Grace Christian Academy, and Riley Palmer and Gregory Brown, tennis players from Bainbridge High School, received the Heisman High School Scholarship, as they were recognized for their performance in the classroom and in the field.

“The Heisman Memorial Trophy is renowned for symbolizing the pursuit of excellence with integrity,” reads the mission statement on the Heisman High School website. “The Heisman High School Scholarship extends Heisman prestige to our nation’s most esteemed senior men and women by recognizing and rewarding outstanding college-athletes who understand that the most important victories don’t just happen on the field. , but in their schools and communities. ”

One of the qualities that go with winning this award is leadership. For GCA volleyball senior Mallorie Jordan, leadership is a skill her coaches have seen grow during her time at GCA.

“Mallorie is an introverted leader,” said GCA volleyball coach Kelsey Harrell. “She may not be the loudest person in the class or on the pitch, but when she speaks, her classmates and teammates listen because they know what she has to say will be important. What makes Mallorie special is the humility she lives and plays with. Mallorie was constantly coaching on the pitch and helping young players learn new things or helping them when they were confused. “a way that young players look up to, and it’s one of the best compliments a person can have. She leaves big shoes to fill for next year, not only in an athletic way, but also in a way of leadership.

Jordan played a big part in the success of the GCA volleyball program in 2022 as she led the Lady Cougars in total with 260 and kills with 166.

For Bainbridge High School tennis senior Riley Palmer, her tenacity and determination to succeed are what set her apart from the norm, according to head coach Amy Thomas.

“Riley works so hard to improve on the field and in the classroom with his academics,” Thomas said. “She really pushes herself to be a good student and a good team player. Riley has a great work ethic. She plays the game with a lot of courage and tenacity and I like that about her. She is also very kind and considerate. Riley has proven she has what it takes to compete with anyone. She is a leader by her actions on the field. His energy drives the team forward.

Mason Brown, a senior football player at Bainbridge High School, has distinguished himself through his volunteerism and community involvement. Along with being the starting left tackle for a burgeoning Bearcats team, Brown has also been on mission trips to Honduras to help renovate homes, is a student captain for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and is a member. of the BHS Keys club which focuses on service leadership.

Brown’s qualities of hard work and service came from his family life and the way his family worked to support him.

“My drive to succeed comes from watching my family work and make sacrifices not only to support my family, but also to succeed in their professions,” Brown said. “Throughout the years of watching and helping my family with given tasks, I have seen and appreciated hard work. I have always wanted to do things to help others and give back to my community. college football players helped our city’s recreation authority equip and distribute football equipment for our community’s youth league. As the young athletes came to get kitted up, their eyes lit up when they realized that it was us who were helping them.

As Heisman High School Scholarship recipients take the next step in their lives, the foundations of the award, such as academic achievement and service to others, are sure to set them apart from the competition in their future goals and aspirations.

Zion Williamson’s much-loved partnership with Nike got a head start earlier this year when the shoe brand introduced Jordan Zion 2, the second signature shoe, to the sneaker community. Although their signature shoe designs are often among the most technologically advanced in the basketball industry, Jordanian business athletes may not be able to match the brand.

However, the star player’s second signature shoe from the Jordan brand has been a huge hit since its inception earlier this year. The footwear brand is gearing up for the launch of a “White and Gold” variant after introducing many other impressive colorways over the past few months, including “Hyper Crimson,” “Pelicans,” “black cement,” and “Voodooto name a few.

The Swoosh label featured Zion Williamson’s second silhouette on their official website as follows:

“The Jordan Zion 2 balances technical prowess – maximizing the power and speed of its namesake – and Williamson’s unique playing personality. It’s designed for a player who can do a multitude of things on the court, and improve simultaneously responsiveness and increase comfort and support.

Jordan Zion 2Color: White/Vast Grey/Metallic GoldStyle Code: DQ7688-170 https://t.co/ze6lCHdUrD

The silhouette’s forefoot strap, tongue flap, heel counter and insole are all covered in an all-over white layer, with leather trim and underlays and mesh adorned with metallic gold embellishments.

To allow the shoe model to breathe, white-on-white laces and tongues merge seamlessly with mesh underlays and perforated leather overlays. Zion’s signature can be seen around the toe of the midsole in White, as well as on the tongue in the aforementioned Metallic Gold tone.

Atop the white sole unit, an Air Storbel unit in the heel provides comfort and allows for softer landings, while Zoom Air in the forefoot expands the cushioning system’s capabilities. The White-on-Grey rubber outsole with “ZW” branding to the forefoot completes the look.

While elaborating on the advanced sole construction of the Jordan Zion 2, Nike states:

“The Zion 2 is constructed with a performance cupsole, which wraps the high foot, and a forefoot strap that works in tandem with the lacing system for optimal support.”

Stay tuned to the official Nike e-store for timely updates on the confirmed release dates of the aforementioned “White and Gold” edition.

The Nike and Jordan label tried to tackle the look of platform sneakers. Eventually, Jordan did just that by releasing the AJ1 Elevate model in February 2022. The sneaker sported the classic AJ1 look with a modified chunky platform sole and air cushion.

Since its unveiling, AJ1 Elevate has continued to release multiple colorways that have taken the classic Nike silhouette to new heights. The sky-high midsoles and concealed wings logo have become trademarks. That said, the latest color scheme to appear on the silhouette is the beloved Hyper Royal makeover.

The shoes give a fearless look with classic black and blue appearing in a traditional color blocking style. The silhouette comes dressed in a “Dark Ash/Hyper Royal/Sail” color scheme. The base of the upper is crafted from Dark Ash leather, which is further enhanced with bold blue accents throughout the shoe.

The sneakers feature an all leather upper and hyper regal overlays that are featured on the ankle flaps, heel counters, lacing system and toe. Additionally, the iconic swoosh logos on both lateral medial sides are coated in a titular Royal Blue hue.

The traditional ashy hue – which looks a lot like black – adorns the underlays. The concealed wing and basketball logo make an appearance on the ankle side flap in a patched pattern. Interior zippers allow easy access to the foot inside the shoe.

Traditional “Nike Air” branding on the top of the tongues is removed from the silhouette to add a minimalist aesthetic to the shoes. The iconic Jumpman decorates the embossed plaques on the jumbo-sized midsoles, which are sure to add inches to the height.

Finally, the offer is closed by the vintage sail-colored midsoles placed on the royal blue solid rubber outsoles with a thick cut. The shoe is inspired by the OG Air Jordan 1 “Royal” makeover from 1985.

The official release date for the Air Jordan 1 Elevate High “Hyper Royal” has yet to be announced. However, according to media outlet Sole Retriever, the shoe can be expected to drop via Nike, SNKRSand select retailers in January 2023 retailing at $145.

North Carolina junior guard Caleb Love has played his entire sophomore season in different iterations of the Air Jordan 11 shoes.

He wore the “Concords” when his last three 3-pointers fought Syracuse in the regular season finale at home to the Tar Heels, finishing with 21 points.

He rocked the all-black “Cap and gowns” when he scored 22 points as the Tar Heels spoiled Mike Krzyzewski’s final home game at Duke’s Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Then he switched shoes at halftime after scoring just three points in the first half of Carolina’s NCAA Sweet 16 Tournament against UCLA. Love turned into the all-blue Carolina “Pantones” and burst for 27 points in the second half to lead the Heels to victory.

Love’s final portrayal of last season was him stepping into those same Pantones for the potential 3-point shot at the buzzer against Kansas in the national title game. Turns out, that was Love’s last snapshot period in her Beloved 11s.

“MJ said I couldn’t (wear them) anymore,” said Love, who didn’t actually speak directly to Michael Jordan. “So I moved on. They’re all in the crib now. We’ll make it work, though. I have shoes in the closet that I can bring that will represent me.

The iconic Jordan 11 with the shiny patent leather and translucent outsole was first released in 1995. Jordan Brand now prefers its new shoes to be worn on the court.

Love wore all white Jordan XXXVI shoes — last year’s shoe from Jordan’s signature line — in Carolina’s win last Friday over Johnson C. Smith University.

The 11 are gone, but not forgotten, especially after Love planted his foot and spun to head for the basket early in the first half against the Bulls in last week’s exhibition game. As he exploded forward, his right shoe, ejected like a parachute, flew off his foot.

Love’s mind immediately wandered to two things as he put his foot back in the shoe.

“I just thought of the 11s, I thought of (Eric) Hoots,” Love said. “I’m like, man, this is crazy.”

Eric Hoots, director of basketball operations at UNC, was the one who suggested with just a look and a nod that Love change shoes at halftime of the Tar Heels’ Sweet 16 game. Hoots is also in contact with the Jordan Brand representative who works with UNC basketball to ensure the Tar Heels get the team shoes they demand.

Carolina is one of the first teams to get access to Dallas Mavericks goaltender Luka Doncic’s new signature shoe, the Luka 1, made by Jordan Brand. Some of Love’s teammates have already transitioned to wearing them.

The good thing about heels is that love isn’t superstitious. He didn’t wear 11s in first year. And his first game as a junior without all 11, albeit an exhibition, he scored 20 points on 50% shooting from the floor – including four 3-pointers – and led the team with eight assists.

“He’ll have a lot of cool shoes this year, so stay tuned,” forward Armando Bacot said. “He’s got a lot of heat in his locker that people haven’t seen, so be prepared.”

A subculture of shoppers – known as “sneakerheads” – have admired the legendary athletic shoe since the boom in basketball and hip-hop culture in the early 1980s.

While basketball legend Michael Jordan represents the rise of sneaker fashion, most shoes bought by sneakerheads are rarely worn. These fanatics research, buy, collect and resell high-end sneakers based on style, brand and exclusivity.

A local sneakerhead, Brian Dein, uses his three decades of retail experience to turn his childhood hobby into a small business.

“I’ve always been fascinated by sneakers and looking for a change of pace from my corporate job,” he said. “I wanted to start a business that would be useful, fun and inspiring for others and my family.”

Jawns on Fire, located on Linglestown Road in Susquehanna Township, sells sneakers, streetwear and more for men, women and kids. A big-screen TV plays hip-hop music throughout the store, inviting people inside. In-store kiosks and iPads allow shoppers to scroll through a wide selection of over 700 new and gently used sneakers.

The walls are filled with floor-to-ceiling displays, displaying designers from Air Jordans to Yeezys, Nike and more. Each shoe has a QR code that customers can scan with their smartphone to see description, price and size availability. Buyers can buy, sell or trade sneakers with a guarantee of authenticity.

“We understand the investment our customers make in our selections,” Dein said. “We encourage everyone, regardless of age, to take care of their shoes and trade them in for a new pair later.”

Dein’s first pair of high-end sneakers, the OG Jordans, are displayed in a display case at the front of the store as a reminder of his “jawn” trip to Philadelphia.

“When I was 10, the first Air Jordan sneakers came out, and I remember visiting a store in Philadelphia for three weeks looking at them,” he said. “My parents couldn’t afford them but told me if I worked hard to do an honor role I could have them. These sneakers are now the centerpiece of this store and how I found my style.

Dein’s story continues with customers like Aiden Harman, a Harrisburg resident who visited the store for months, researching the right pair before making a purchase.

“I’ve been coming to the store since they opened in August to check out their inventory and learn about the shoe culture,” Harman said. “It’s hard to find my shoe size in other stores, so I finally pulled the trigger and bought my first pair.”

Unlike many shoe stores, Jawns on Fire offers sizes for men, women and children from 2C to 18 for men. When browsing online or in person, customers can search their size to see available inventory and size conversions for unisex options.

Dein and his associates, affectionately referred to as “Jawn-Noisseurs”, pride themselves on fostering an inclusive environment where new and old sneakerheads alike can get to know each other and form emotional connections. Their #BeJawn culture has welcomed over 3,000 customers to their store with a 33% customer return rate.

In addition to sneakers, the store also sells clothing from popular brands such as Anti Social Club, Vlone and Essentials. Additionally, Jawns on Fire supports local vendors by providing a space for them to sell merchandise like wood art, candles, custom rugs and more. In the coming months, Dein plans to expand its clothing selection and offer special holiday offers, such as Christmas layaway options.

“I took the best of the sneakerhead world, my retail experience and added some pixie dust to differentiate our brand from others,” Dein said. “Since opening our doors, we’ve been able to meet and help our local community find and find designers that weren’t available before, and it feels good.”

Jawns on Fire is located at 2302 Linglestown Rd. (Blue Mountain Commons), Harrisburg (Susquehanna Township). For more information, visit www.jawnsonfire.comtheir Facebook and Instagram page at @jawns.on.fire.

Jordan Brand is back with another throwback of the Air Jordan 4, and it calls back to one of the model’s most famous colorways.

Like I have writing about before, the Air Jordan 4 was the second Air Jordan model designed by the GOAT, Tinker Hatfield. MJ wore the shoes during the 1988-89 season, including for his winning move on Cleveland’s Craig Ehlo in the first round of the 1989 playoffs. The shoes also entered the pop culture lexicon in a appearance in Spike Lee’s “Do The Right Thing”, with Lee also appearing with Jordan in Nike commercials as Mars Blackmon.

Saturday’s release draws from the Olympics »white cement” colors. It features a similar White leather upper, with White mesh and Cement Gray speckled hits on the midsole, wings, and heel tab. The main difference here is that where the OG colorway had hits of black, this model features a midnight navy, what Jordan Brand calls a “fall update.” It also features the Jumpman on the heel tab rather than the OG Nike Air branding as seen on most retro non-OG colorways these days.

The shoe will release in full family sizes on SNKRS with prices ranging from $210 for men to $70 for toddlers.

The “White Cement” model. last released in 2016, currently has an average sale price of $596 on StockX, representing a 190% price premium with 10% volatility. We’ve seen several Air Jordan 4 releases this year, with the “Military black“colorway, modeled on the OG”military blueseeing an average sell price of $338 on StockX – a 60% price premium with 23% volatility. There “Infrared“The colorway deteriorated slightly, with an average sale price of $254 for a 22% price premium with 5% volatility.

Good luck to anyone looking to pick up a pair!
