Michael Jordan’s NBA debut ticket stub sells for $ 264,000, a record for a sports ticket
Early Friday, Michael Jordan posted yet again – into the perpetually mad world of sports cards and collectibles.
Top-rated ticket stub (awarded an EX-MT 6 rating from Professional Sports Authenticator, or PSA) from Michael Jordan’s NBA debut sold for $ 264,000 at auction, breaking the record most expensive collectible sports ticket ever sold.
The sale, led by Huggins & Scott Auctions, includes a 20% buyer’s premium. Even without the bonus, the sale would still have broken the previous record, set in October when a 1903 World Series Game 3 ticket stub (and first) sold for $ 175,000 at Christie’s.
Jordan made his NBA debut on October 26, 1984 at the now demolished Chicago Stadium. Over 13,000 people were in attendance to watch the Jordan’s Bulls beat the Washington Bullets 109-93.
Jordan scored 16 points with 6 rebounds and 7 assists. He also blocked four shots, the third-biggest by a rookie in a team’s all-time opener of the season.
The heel is another element of Jordan’s rookie season that has popped up recently. In late October, a pair of sneakers worn by Jordan’s rookie season game sold at Sotheby’s for $ 1.472 million, shattering the record for the most expensive game shoes, also held by Jordan.
