The Scooter Shop is moving to Baltimore County – Trade Observer

Mobility equipment supplier The scooter shop signed a 2,500 square foot lease in a shopping center in the Perry Hall section of Baltimore County.

American management owns the 12,000 square foot shopping center in 9810 Belair Road.

The Scooter Shop carries a variety of travel mobility scooters, power wheelchairs, manual wheelchairs, power recliners, and other durable medical equipment. The company moves from its showroom and headquarters to 6360 S. Hanover Road in Elkridge, Maryland, where it currently leases 3,000 square feet.

“We expanded into Baltimore County at 9810 Belair Road to cover Baltimore County, Harford County, Cecil County, southern Pennsylvania and western Delaware,” Jim Lutrell, owner of The Scooter Shop, told Commercial Observer. “There is not enough support for older people in these areas who need mobility equipment.”

The property is located at the intersection of Belair Road and Honeygo Boulevard, with more than 51,000 people residing within a three-mile radius with an average household population approaching $115,000, according to Kate Jordandirector of Lee & Associates-Marylandwho represented the tenant in the transaction.

“I assumed Lee & Associates would bring me similar choices to my industrial building in Elkridge, and I was surprised when our first stop was a retail location with huge roadside visibility,” Luttrell said. “The space provided the large showroom I was looking for, as the intent is for customers to see the product in person and take it home immediately.”

Other mall tenants include CVS Pharmacy and Pet Family Hospital.

“The borders between the shopping center and the flex and [research and development] space are becoming increasingly blurry as users typically reserved for one type of product now operate successfully in both environments,” Jordan said. “The medical sector in particular is booming and needs space close to its customers, and The Scooter Shop is an example of this.”

Joining Jordan on the deal was Marley Welshvice president of Lee & Associates-Maryland. Joe Mekulsky and alex shear of KLNB represented the landlord in the lease. The rent has not been disclosed.
