Top Skin Lightening Tips: Products, Tips, and Mistakes

Without a strong, robust skin barrier, you’re not going to glow. Full stop. So, staying hydrated and supporting your skin’s microbiome should be a key part of your overall routine. This is best achieved in two parts: Limit irritation, then layer barrier-supporting creams and moisturizers.

On the first point, we recommend removing strong cleansers from your routine, as they can mess with your biome and moisture layer. From there, it’s just a matter of listening to your skin: note which products leave your skin feeling tight, dry or angry afterwards. We are often taught that these are signs that the formula is “working” on the skin, but rather indications that they may be disrupting the barrier.

On this last part, look for lotions and creams that contain lipids, antioxidants, and biotic ingredients. We love lipids like vegetable oils (oats, moringa seeds, and jojoba come to mind) because they’re packed with skin-supporting fatty acids. Antioxidants can help protect skin from the effects of environmental stressors and free radicals, two things that seriously dull your glow. Finally, biotic ingredients, such as pre, pro and postbiotics, work with your natural microflora to improve epidermal structure, overall skin quality and hydration.
