WooSox to Showcase Autonomous AI Store in ‘Winter Wonderland’ Celebration at Polar Park on Saturday
Polar Park is one of baseball’s newest stadiums, but a feature debuting this weekend will make it the most futuristic stadium in the sport.
Along with Standard AI, the Worcester Red Sox announced on Friday that the first stand-alone baseball retail store would debut at Polar Park on Saturday. The organization welcomes fans to the stadium from 11 am to 3 pm for the inaugural âWooSox Winter Wonderlandâ celebration.
During the event, Standard AI and the team will have a ribbon cut for the WooSox Marketplace. The store allows fans to buy snacks and souvenirs and pay without any scans, queuing or stopping to checkout. Everything works through the Standard AI Checkout app, where fans can add payment information and view their receipt just minutes after purchase.
âWorcester has a rich history of innovation, which makes it ideal for baseball’s premier self-sustaining retail market,â WooSox President Charles Steinberg said in a statement. “The WooSox Marketplace adds wonderful convenience which means less time online and more time enjoying our beautiful baseball stadium.”
The technology uses cameras powered by AI and the cloud to create a fully autonomous retail experience.
Standard AI has modernized the WooSox marketplace using only ceiling-mounted cameras and proprietary computer vision software, which decrypts the items each shopper has grabbed and left with.
Fans who want to explore the WooSox Marketplace can grab any items they want and tap their phone to exit. They will receive a receipt a few minutes later.
Standard AI said the platform was designed with privacy in mind and does not use facial recognition.
âSporting events are the perfect venue for stand-alone retail, ensuring that no fan has to stand in line or miss a minute of action on the pitch. We couldn’t be more excited to partner with the Worcester Red Sox to open the world’s first stand-alone baseball retail store, âStandard AI CEO and Co-Founder Jordan Fisher said in a statement.
The WooSox Winter Wonderland celebration is open to fans on Saturday.
The stadium event will include free hot chocolate, eggnog, chocolate chip cookies and pies at the table. Former Boston Red Sox players Sam Horn and Lenny DiNardo will be at the event to meet fans, take photos and sign autographs. Horn will be at Polar Park from 11 a.m. to noon. DiNardo is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Santa and Mrs. Claus will join the Smiley Ball mascots and Woofster the WonderDog for photos and autographs.
